free webhosting

I like a lot of peple love geting somthing for nothing, wich is one of the resons i use a linux baset oparating system(but that is a totaly seprat post). Webhosting can often be expencive. Ther are a cupple of free web hosts that I woold not recomend at all, for example webs.com that used to be freewebs.com, sirveses like this ofer a very limited package, not much avalable bandwidth, storage ext.

but ther is some grate free webhostes out ther:
blogger.com - grate if you want to host a free blog, just like this one. A blog is a small website, that alows you to post posts. blogger isnt realy a good chose if you want a website.

If you want a free host that offers PHP and mysql databases ther isnt much choyse, personaly i use x10hosting for this sort of funconality. thes sites are ad free and have potenculy unlimited disck space and bandwidth. Ther isnt meny servises that can offer this. The one draw back i find with x10 is you have to visit ther forums quite offtern or your files will start to be deleted. This is just like having a payed for profeshanal host but it is for free. I wold not recomend this if you don't have much HTML knolage as if you are yousing this you are most lightly going to be building your website from scrach.

If you don't have much coding knolage you might be intrested in google sites. This form of doing it is very comunity based, it is more of a shoshal site, but the grate thitng about it is that you get a esy to use WYSIWUG editer, grate if you dont have much  coding knowledge or if you just want to mock up a site quicly insted of having to program your site from scrach.

Althow ther is lots of grate free hosting services out ther i dont think that they will ever replace compleatly a payed for host, thar serveses are just to good.

how to find new and intresting stuff on the intanet(top 3 list)

I have started to notest that alot of people stick to what they know when it comes to the intanet, they have a ruteen and dont like to visit new site to find out new stuff. Ther is alot more intresting stuff on the web that alot of you think dont egist. Hear is my top 3 list of how to find intresting stuff on the web.

1. looking for somthing? google it. this is the most ovias way of finding somthing new, serch a serchenjon. but you can also use other serch enjons to find difrent things, like google blog serch for example this helps you to find blog posts that might intrest you. Happy serching.
2. Use twitter,  look on whats trending, google it and find out what it is, you might find some stuff you dint know about. also you might like to try stumbleupon this is a sirvies that helps you find websites in a similar way.
3. try randomwebsite.com. This is a servise that you click on a link and you are taken to a random website, but plese be cerfull and have a up to date anti virus pakage installd. Also thes sigts may not be toatlay 'apropriat' but its still a grate way to find new sites, but ples be cerufll.

A short miss spelt introducan to server side scripting in PHP

I asume you have a basic understanding of HTML, if not you can find plent of turoials on the web, personaly i reeocomend W3Schools tutorial.

PHP is a gernral perpos scripting langwage, but its most common use is scripting on web servers. This is a short introducon to it and we wont go into to much detal.

Befor you use PHP you need a server to run it on. Insted of having a hole seprat computer to act as a server, or even runing a veutal masheen the simplast way by far is to use a local server or local host, this terns you home computer into a web server. I use xampp for this but ther is menny of them out ther like wamp for windows and so on. I will let you find out how to run thes your self, ther is pleny of tutorisals out ther. IF i was to explane it it wold probalby end up going in to way to much deatal.

So now you have a way to render the PHP. When you are working with PHP all files contaning PHP must be saved as '.php'. As always with lerning a new programing langwige it is common pracktis to make a hello world program. so coppy the folowing code into a text editer and i will try to explane what is going on.

One you acsess the file thrue your web server you will see the output is hello world. on starting a PHP script you use the "<?php" tag and you end it with "?>". the echo part of it is just like saying print in basic or cout in c++. at the end of a coded line it ended with a semicolon(";") this just tells PHP that it is the end of a line.

Now lets try a more complacated hello world program.

$a = "hello";
$b = "world";
echo $a." ".$b;
?>

 This file has exactly the same out put as befor. but this time we are using verables. when using verables in PHP the verable name always starts with a '$'. in this case we are usesing strings so the value of the verable must be sorounded by quotatons. on the echo line we use a '.' to concatanate the strings.

Branestorming, or mind maping as the politicaly corect way of saying it is ectreemly easy on paper, but online it is just as simple.

bubbl.us is my fravret tool for this. It helps you create mind maps online, and the grate thing about doing them online is that they can be esaly sheard. With one coppy you arnt going to cores problems.

Funny fake phishing E-mails

Ever since I started publishing a contact email on this blog in a 'unsafe' way(an actual text and link to it so that web cralers can esly read it) it was hit with spam and phishing emails. I knew it wold happon wich is one of the resons I did it.

The genral format of thes emails are that some one has past away along with ther next of kin, and they have a lage amount of money resting in a forron acount with no body to clame it. They then normaly ask for you to give them your bank detales so that the mony can be 'trans ferd'. DON'T FALL FOR IT! It is quite oviasly a scam. All the ones i have seen  mention at some point Burkina Faso West Africa making me think that they are all coming from one perosn, but his migt not be true.One example even used a real person with a link to a news post about ther death to try and convinse people.

Personaly i find it quite funny as I can't stop thinking about George Agdgdgwngo from phonejacker when im reading them. But it is not funny if you ever fall for one, be shuer to check you know ecatly who emails are from befor you send most infomaton, and be very cefull as email isnt very sucuer when it comes to transmitting dater.

One think i wold like to say, is that Microsoft have done a fantastic job on there E-mail Spam filter. it worsks very well, well done Microsoft.

Stick RPG 2

Xgenstudios released stick RPG 2 a wile back now. After 7 years it is finily hear. Personly I like the game, it sort of gets the feal of the previasu one, but with a lot beter grafics. Ther is a lot more to do in this one aswell, wich can be a good thing but also a bad thing becaus you can get distracted,  the game is well worth a play.

Xgen also have other grate broser games(somthing you dont see every day, normaly browser games are of infiria quality). Motherlode is one of them. In this you are in a mining pod on marse, the ferver down you go the more valuble the minarals get. ther is a twist also. but i wont spoil it for you.

How to use this blog

It is becoming aparant that people are struggling to navigate this blog, so this is a guide on how to do it, (It might change over time so I will try and keep it up to date.)

First of all what is a blog? Well the word 'Blog' is a combination of the words 'Web' and 'log'. It is a way to create a log, or journal, on the intanet  for evry one to see. But ther is some blogs out ther that are privat.

How do I navigate this blog? Blogs are split up into posts. What you are reading now is a post. If you are on the home page of this blog(or most other blogs) you can click on its tile to bring you to the articles page, on this page, you can normal leve comments about that poticluala post.

If you are looking for a post on a cereton subject, ther is two ways to find them(On this blog at lesst). At the top of the right side bar ther is a rotating ball of key words 'tags'. If you click on one of thes tags, you will be brote to a page with all of the posts on that subject. You can also find tags at the botom of each post, click on them to be brote to exactly the same page as from the rotating ball of tags. The second way to find posts is from the two serch boxses. The first serch box(In the tool bar across the very top of the blog) will let you serch in a simalar way to the tags, once you have put in the key words, it will take you a page with all the articals relating to what you have sercht for. The second serch box(at the top of the right side bar)  alows you to serch the blog, the web and blog and out going links very quicly as you dont navagate awyay from the page. The results open strat away in the top senter secton.

You can also find posts orderd by date. To do this you can use the "blog arcive", It can be fownd under the 'tag sphear'. It is a drop down menu , simply click on one of the months to be brote to a page with posts orderd by date.

One last way that you can find posts is by using the 'you might also like' links at the bottom of each and evry post. 

At the botom of each of thes pages under the post you will find somthing like this(some of the botens may be missing on difrent pages dipending on its own sercomstances):

Use thees botens to navergate to newer posts, the home page and older posts. You can use the 'posts (atom)' link to get the feed of the blog strate to your own reader, if you take a look, it will make more sence.

Over zealous E-safety rules

Its a rant agen. I wold like to point out some E-safety rules(the ones given out by school techers) that arnt as bad as peple make out. But still you shold always remeber to stay safe on the intanet.

For example "Dont talk to peple you dont know on the intranet", what a lode of garbige. As I pointed out in a post about what to do if you are bord, ther is a service that is sposificly for this: http://omegle.com/. It can be fun, entataning and also informative. Been online is just like been in real life(the techers tell us), so if in real life you never talktd to strangers, how wold you make frends? get information for seton thing? buy stuff?

The next one is "Lock up your twitter and facebook acount so only peple you want can see your persnale stuff". Ok mr E-safety dictater. If I did that I wold luse alot of my traffic to this blog. Shal networking makes for grate advatising if you know how to use it right. The twitter part of that statment is a hole new levle of tosh. Twitter is a micro bloging service, so its good for uther peple to see what you put, Its just a smaller vershon of a full sized blog.

"Only enter your personal detales on a site that has 'HTTPS:// at the bigining of the URL'" one work. facebook. nuf sead.

and finaly. "ask your peronts if you are not shuwer if a site is safe" Well I dont know about you, but , my perants dont know nothing about intanet safty, im the one that tells them what is safe and is not.

OK, now that you have your website up and runing, what  shold you do next? Well it dipends on what you want to do with your site and your own personal goles but a very comen thing that you may want to do is track vewrs, probable the best tool out ther to do this is google analytics. You sine up and put a small snip it of JavaScript code on to all the pages of the site you want to track. All the information gathered is then sent back to google's site and you will be able to see lots of interesting information on how peple use your site.

If you are not geting alot of trafic and you want to inprove the amount of people going to your site.  The first thing to do is to make shuwer that you have the best content out ther, if you have the best content on a poticula subject peple will tell ther frends, and they will tell ther frends, and so on. If you dont have meny real frends, why not post links to your site on verus soshale networking site, this will also inprove your trafic.

Do you want to make mony with your website? well if you do, try not to make it the main gole of your site, just somthing on the side. If you have lots of grate content, it is prity esy to do. You can try and sell ad spase on your site to advatisers or try google adsense this is a nuther grate website tool for website owners. see the google adsense site for more on this thow. Also you can try and make mony form afiliat marketing, this is where you sell products for uther people and they pay you comition, but be wery they are lots of pople that are ofaring this kind of servise that are compleet sckams so be very wery. Making mony online is very dificult. You must put in the work to get out what you want.


Right a blog on your site, Blogs can be esaly kept up to date and will provide somthing extra for your users to do, it also can hellp your serch engon rankings.


Keep on tweeking your template untill it has all posible bells and whisles that you want, and try to make it look good. Always update your content so it is uptodate. 


But most inpotantly of all, try not to let your site die. Unless you realy cant aford to host the site, with the cheepest host you can find. A dead website wont get alot of new trafic and it may be dificult to remeber how evrting works on the coding side of things later on if you want to contunue.

Lets make a website: step by step.

Over the years I have gone thrue a fair few websites. Ones you get uset to how it can be done its relatively easy. Hear is a basick help post for beginers.

Step one: get an idiear.
Ther is no point in wanting to make a website if you dont know what you want with it. You need to have a topic that you are very cofident on and will know what to right about. try and find a nich that ther is not meny good sites on.

Step two: Find a url and snap it up
Onse you have your aria of expertes that your website is going to be about, you need to find an adress(URL) to put it on. To get the URL you must regster it with a hosting company like godaddy or fast host. Ones you have registerd your URL no body else can get it so you are free to beging dising your website. If you cant think of a URL try wordoid, this site helps you find one.

step three: Build your site.
The first stage in building your site is to draw out the lay out on paper so you know what you want. Ones you know what you want your site to look like you can begen to make it. Websites are 'programed' manly in HTML, if you don't know HTML have a look on W3schools, they have a grate tutorials on these subjects. Onse you know how to code, simply build your website and make shuwer it is full of usfull and well riton content

step for: find hosting
To put youre site onto the web you will need to find a hosting company that will host it for you. This meens that ther will be somwer to keep yours site and alow it to be sent out to users. godaddy or fast host for example. You will need to link your URL and your hosting together, the hosting provider will tell you how to do this.

step five: uplode the site
You need to uplode the site you have built to your host, they can tell you how to do this.

step six: keep the site up to date
It is not to good if your site never changes or gets new content added. This will keep your reeders coming back for more.

I probably havent expland this very well but this is a good spot to start to show you the hard work that gose into making a website.
